Product Details
Rare 1979 Park 50 watt 1x12” combo, model 1238. Marshall manufactured Park amps are uncommon whatever the era but the late ‘70s models, although introducing some innovative ideas, had very low production numbers by comparison with the parent company’s products.
Yes, I know it says “BASS” on the front but this makes a killer guitar amp. The EQ section is similar to that on the JCM800 bass head with a sweep control for the midrange. Other tone controls are the customary Bass and Treble plus an Upper-Mid Boost and Edge (presence) controls. Two inputs are included for high and low level signals. The 12”speaker is housed in an unported enclosure. I think it is an 80 watt McKenzie which Marshall/Park were using at this time as Celestion were not making speakers which could handle the power of the compact combos without blowing.Condition is very good for its age with a few small tears in the levant covering and the grille cloth is intact although missing the Park logo (I cannot see any sign of it ever having one). The side still retains a “Keep Music Live” sticker from the period which I haven’t had the heart to remove. The base looks like it was originally fitted with castors but now has a new set of rubber feet. The knobs are a matching set but I’m not sure if they are original to the amp as they are different to those on other Park amps of the era.
Internally the amp is fitted with a pair of Mazda EL34 power tubes and a pair of ECC83s in the pre-amp, all of which I take to be original. There is no brand visible on the pre-amp valves but there are codes which make me think they are Mullard. Drake transformers and choke are fitted, exactly the same ones as fitted in the Lead 50 version. The inspection label clearly shows the model designation and date.
This is a rare opportunity to get one of Marshall’s lesser known and rarest amps. By lucky/happy coincidence {Really?} there is another one currently for sale on Reverb. It's worth reading their blurb to appreciate what I'm selling here at around half the price they're asking!Rare 1979 Park 50 watt 1x12” combo, model 1238.
