Description
This is an amazing piece of rock history! ESP Jazz bass owned by legendary KISS band member during their album Carnival of Souls. This was the last album of the unmasked era of KISS. "Jungle" won the Metal Edge Readers' Choice Award for Song Of The Year. The ESP J-Four is the very best Jazz Bass to come out of Japan and is from the same Japanese company making the main guitars for Metallica and The Rolling Stones. The bass and serial number were logged on artist gear-tracker website EquipBoard years ago and is still visible there, as is the link to Bruce Kulick's interview about the record and an ESP Jazz bass used on the record! KISS's Bruce Kulick states about I Walk Alone: "Now about the guitars and effects that I used when recording the track. Rhythm parts and overdubs are played on Gibson LP Jr, LP Custom and ’53 LP guitars. The track also features Gibson Ivory Explorer 1983 guitars, cherry ES 355 and blue ESP Stratocaster. Gene plays the ESP he used in the Jungle – I convinced him that this model's jazz pickups would sound more musical than the other powerful bass guitars in his collection. The solo at the end of the song is played on a Stratocaster-Frankenstein, specifically to sound like Hendrix recordings. I played through various chorus pedals, all of them mentioned in my Studio diaries, but some of them I can't even remember! For example, I write that I played through the processing of "69", who the f**k knows what this pedal is? And what is surprising: the album was recorded in late 1995-early 1996. The official release of the CD was not until October 1997, it is funny that on pirated versions of I Walk Alone sometimes did not exist at all. They probably heard my voice and thought it was another band playing!"
The bass was one of two (the other a purple Fender) in Bruce's collection that were signed by him and offered for sale by a guitar dealer in California as can be seen in the documented online history of this particular bass. The bass was sold & made its way to Europe before landing at our studio. The serial number 19962 is well documented.
